Pianist, Vocalist, Guitarist & Songwriter
Connecting People and Music.
As a musician, songwriter, performer, and instructor I believe my true purpose is to connect people with music.
I started receiving piano instruction at the age of seven, and before then I was always making up songs on the piano and performing for my family. My grandpa (Papa!) played the banjo and ukulele and we would work up numbers together like By the Light of the Silvery Moon. My mom, a lifelong pianist, made sure we had a piano in the main room of the house. So began my love of music, and my journey as a musician. I took guitar lessons in my teenage years, sang in ensembles throughout my academic career, and received private vocal instruction along the way. In high school I began songwriting after a "Songwriting Section" in my jazz ensemble, where we were encouraged to write and perform original music. After writing and charting my first song Amelia at the age of 15, I was hooked, and I haven't stopped writing music.
I received a BA Minor in Music from the University of Vermont, focusing on vocal and piano performance during my time there. I've been performing in public and private venues since the age of 16. I currently perform my original music as a solo act, as well as in two Vermont based bands, EmaLou and The Beat and Emma Cook & Questionable Company.
I also received a BA in Environmental Studies from the University of Vermont, and after graduating I worked at a renewable energy business and environmental nonprofit, respectively, for six years before pursuing my passion (music! people!) as my livelihood.
I've lived in Burlington, Vermont full time since 2011 and am continually inspired and supported by the community here. I look forward to expanding my musical community by working with you!
